Britan's got skiers is back for a second year, after last years success with Black Label Project, "Moonlight" i was looking forward to getting something together for the comp. My edit this year was made up of footage I filmed in Livingo in March and Tahoe in April. I tried to mix up some urban with park footage and went for a James Brown classic for added vibes,

Summer is here!

The ski season is over for another year and I am looking forward to some epic nights at the Castleford Sno!dome catching up with everyone and riding some sick summer setups.

I haven't posted on my blog since leaving for Europe in January but finally I have some time to stop and re-live the 2011 winter..

Urban spot in Livingo, mid March

After the Freeze I took a pre season trip out to Les Diablerets where there was a really fun early winter park. upon returning to the UK I found that the country had been pounded with snow so we set out on a mission to hit urban rails around Leeds and Manchester.

Here is Diggin' in the Crates, a pre season edit showing what we made of this surprise snow, the Diablerets trip and some banger park set ups in the Sno!zone at Castleford.

I Left for Poland at the End of January with Rasta Rob and the rest of the Unity Crew for the first leg of my European trip. The first stop was in Zakopane for the Polish Open. The competition went really well for me, I picked up a second place and received a cheque for 1000 zl, stoked! Here is a write up about the event on the Unity news pages: HERE

After another legendary Polish Open afterparty, it was time to get down to business in the streets of Poland. Rasta Rob filmed all week for the upcoming 3rd Unity movie "Strictly Business". I have seen a sneek peek and this years movie is set to be a huge step forward for Unity Productions. Stay tuned for more on the movie towards the end of the summer. HERE is a write up about the week.

Next stop was Livingo, set to be my home for the next 6 weeks. I lived with The Black Label crew Joe Tomlinson and Nathan Conolly. Livingo was a new experience for us and it did not disappoint, by far the best park I have ever ridden in Europe. Here is a short edit by Rasta Rob of our first day out on the mountain.

I spent the rest of February and most of March skiing and enjoying the Livingo experience. We decided that our crib needed its very own rail garden, it took us a while to get it built however, fun times followed. Here is a little edit we put together...

The Livingo park crew were unbelievable with the standard of their shaping and worked non stop to keep the jumps perfect, here is a quick run I took down the pro line

At the end of March Harry Foskett made a trip out to see us to shoot some pictures for various magazines. He wanted to get some back country shots which was proving to be a little tricky as the European winter had been very dry and we hadn't had any powder the whole time in Livingo. We got lucky at the end of the week as the sky's clouded over and a big storm rolled in. I got one epic day in shooting with Harry in the Livingo Backcounty, Here is a shot that never was, I wanted to do a slash high up on this wind lip but some punters cut across it as Harry was preparing the shot. The other photos from this trip Harry is keeping for the magazines and I will post them as and when they are published.

I Left Livingo for Lake Tahoe on the 27th of March. Before I left Tomo and myself filmed a little Black Label Project edit, here it is, "State Ya Name"

Europe was having one of the worst winters in recent years, in comparison on the west coast of the USA they were having their best winter since they began recording snow fall at the start of the 70's. I arrived in Truckee, Lake Tahoe, California to be greeted by the most snow I have ever seen!

I got to live a child hood dream and got to ski at Squaw Valley in deep powder!

I spent 6 weeks in Tahoe and got to ride at Heavenly and Sierra and got some amazing spring days in at Northstar. When the mountain closed on the 24th of April there was still plenty of snow left to enjoy Boreal which is planning to stay open until July!

Before I left Tahoe I wanted to Jump off the train tunnel featured in FODT productions "Arena" movie. The conditions were not good the day we went up to hit it and the landing was bullet proof. I had to build a track along the top of the tunnel as the snow had melted but I had a go!

Upon returning to Europe I headed to Kunetal in Austria for a final week enjoying the spring conditions and lapping the Glacier park there!

This winter has been an amazing experience for me, I got to travel to some amazing places, ski some great parks and ride some epic backcountry in one of America's biggest winters. I have a ton of footage to review from America and I will try to get a new edit done soon. I will be back at Castleford Sno!dome for the summer and had my first night out on Thursday riding with Andy Collin, Bring on the summer!

Diggin' in the Crates

Just finished a new Black Label edit called Diggin' in the Crates. Its a bunch of shots that I wanted to do something with that we got over the last 3 months. I had a bunch of footage from Castleford that I wanted to use and the footage we got on our pre season trip to Les Diablerets. At the start of December the UK was pounded with snow and we managed to hit some urban in Leeds and Manchester, if only England was always like this in the winter!

Black Label Project on the canal

When you think of the canal network of England your first thoughts might not be to try and ski on them. Well on Sunday that's exactly what we did!!!

Using a push bike and some waterskis we attempted a spot of afternoon waterskiing!!! I have to say that it wasn't are most successful venture and I think I had Hypothermia after an hour in the Manchester canal, but we bemused onlookers and got some comical footage for the new edit, which will drop at the end of October.

Had a great night on Friday 3^rd September. It was the Subjam at Castleford, a yearly charity event. The park setup was really fun and there was a great crew of skiers out to support the event on Friday. I even won a jacket in the Raffle! Stoked!

Black Label Project "Moonlight" Edition

Our Ellis Brigham's “Britains got Skiers” Comp entry, The Black Label Project "Moonlight" edition.

Ellis Brigham are running a competition this year to find the best UK ski edit, the prize, £500 in cold hard cash. With these stakes, I knew that the competition was going to be fierce and we were going to have to put something special together. Lucky Tommo had the low down on a secret location close to his house where we could do something a little different. It was an old quarry and T-bone planned on giving skiing a try! We got up there late on a Sunday, the quarry is all shale with a large lake and steep banks leading down to it. The Shale slid remarkably well and we managed to capture some banger moonlit shots.

The Edit took me 20 + hours to complete, over 2 days of solid work, I decided to use a Dupstep track for this one which ended up working really well. Rasta helped me finish the edit and did quality control on it, his final touches really made a difference. I dropped the edit on Newschoolers and it has been top rated for the past 2 weeks.

UPDATE

The edit has been shortlisted to be in the Brigham’s movie, 10 edits have made the cut and we will find out the results of the competition at the end of October at the Mountain film Festival.

Black Label Project “Platinum"

The platinum edit dropped at the end of July and I am really stoked on how well it has gone down. We started filming this instalment at the start of June, I wanted this edit to have a summer feel to it and showcase the amenities for skiing that we have in the UK. We hit up Ski Rossi, Tommo’s home town slope, Cas Snow dome and filmed at an outdoor jam we had at the Faversham pub at Leeds University. Riding with the big dogs for the edit were Jacky P and James “Woodsy” Woods. Woodsy was fresh back from his ski season and on top form pulling off some epic rail slaying. The Nike 6.0 rail at Cas or “Big Red” got shown what’s up with woodsy pulling off front 2 and Cab 2 pretzels both ways. Even Unity CEO Rob “Rasta” Embling made an appearance with a steezy K-Fed!

Unity Black Label "Gold Edition"

I finally got the edit done last night with the help of Collins on the quality control and After Effects. In this edit is all the shots I got in Poland and 2 days in the Park Filming in Mayrhofen with Tommo and Jack. I wanted to get some different stuff into this one rather that having all park shots, I managed to film a sweet line Tommo laid down on 150 in the Hoff and got some other random shots from Poland.

Black Label

The Black Label Project is a video series Joe Tommo and Myself have been working on this year. We came up with the idea riding up the chairlift, we wanted produce some banger edits over the winter that would show what we have been getting up to. The first two edits were shot in late December at the Penken Park in Mayrhofen. The Black Label Project ties in with the imminent release of Unity's black label clothing line which is going to be sick!

Out so far is the "Bronze" and "Silver" Editions. I am working on the gold edit at the moment which will show our visit to poland and spring skiing in the Hoff!
